TheuseofBlack-GoldIIstainistailoredtostudiesusingformalin-fixed,non-solventprocessedtissue.Thetechniquestainslargemyelinatedtractsdarkred-brown,whiletheindividualmyelinatedfibersappearblack.Thisnoveltracercanbeusedtolocalizebothnormalandpathologicalmyelin.Black-GoldIIstaincandemonstrateandcharacterizespecificmyelinchangesassociatedwithexposuretodiverseneurotoxicantsincludingkainicacid,methamphetamine,acrylamide,domoicacid,3-nitropropionicacid,Fluoro-Gold™tracerandisoniazid.
